Moral Hazard

The tendency of individuals, once insured, to behave in such a way as to increase the likelihood or size of the risk against which they have insured. Can be classified into ‘supply-side Moral Hazard’ (when the doctor provides unnecessary care because the patient is insured) or ‘demand-side Moral Hazard’ (when the patient demands unnecessary care because he is insured).
